UOB Lady’s Card Points Mechanics

UOB Lady’s Card Points Mechanics

One of the hottest cards due to the 4 MPD earn rate. It doesn’t come without it’s own unique set of rules though.

Not many cards give you such high MPD.

Card Profile

  • Rewards system: Points (UNI$)
  • Rewards rate: Local and overseas:
    • Base: Every $5 spent = UNI$1 = 2 Krisflyer miles
    • Bonus: Every $5 spent = UNI$9 = 18 Krisflyer miles
  • Best for: Focused spending on any one category from Fashion, Dining, Travel, Beauty and Wellness, Family, Transport or Entertainment. The Lady’s Solitaire Card allows for two categories.
  • Annual fee:
    • UOB Lady’s Card = $196.20 (principle card), free for first supplementary card
    • UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card = $414.20 (principle card), free for first two supplementary cards
    • The annual fee is deducted through UNI$ by default. Hence, keep a lookout for this in your statements.
  • Points validity: 2 years from the last day of each calendar quarter in which the UNI$ was earned

The general criteria to be eligible for UNI$ applies.

And the secret to earning as many miles as possible lies in the bonus UNI$ which translates to more miles.

Let’s dive into the reward mechanics.

Reward Mechanics

To earn bonus UNI$, you have to choose one category from their Preferred Rewards Categories below. For customers holding on to the UOB Lady’s Solitare Card, you can choose up to 2 categories.

  • Fashion
  • Dining
  • Travel
  • Beauty and Wellness
  • Family
  • Transport
  • Entertainment

What is the points rate?

Spending locally or overseas will earn you the same rates.

More importantly, spending in the selected category will earn you base + bonus points (we want to focus on this as it brings us the highest MPD). Spending outside your selected category will only fetch you base points.

Unfortunately there is a cap to the amount of UNI$ you can earn. For the UOB Lady’s Card, the cap is $1000 worth of spending and for the UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card, it’s $2000 per calendar month.

When do the points expire?

The accumulated UNI$ will expire 2 years from the last day of each calendar quarter it was earn. For example, if you earned 100 UNI$ in February 2024, the earning date will be 31 March 2024. Therefore, the expiry will be in Quarter 1 of 2026.

  • Quarter 1: January, February, March
  • Quarter 2: April, May, June
  • Quarter 3: July, August, September
  • Quarter 4: October, November, December

The bonus points doesn’t just stop at the Lady’s Card. UOB multiplies your points by up to 15X if you also have Lady’s Savings account.

We can see how this boosts our miles accumulation for the Lady’s Card and the Lady’s Solitaire Card in the shortest time possible.

Let’s assume every month you spent on $800 in Dining, the calculation will work out as:

Base = 800 / 5 = 160 UNI$
Bonus (from credit card) = (800 / 5) x 9 = 1440 UNI$
Bonus (from savings account if you have $10,000 MAB) = (800 / 5) X 5 = 800 UNI$
Total = 160 + 1440 + 800 = 2400 UNI$ = 4800 miles

Which merchants allow me to earn UNI$?

Transaction categories are automatically categorised according to the Merchant Category Code (MCC). The MCC determines whether the transaction is eligible for Bonus UNI$ under each category.

MCCs are assigned by payment card organisations (e.g. Visa, MasterCard, American Express). A merchant’s registered MCC may not always correspond with its nature of business.

Therefore, if you’re making a big purchase, you will have to do a bit of homework and check if the merchant MCC corresponds to any of the codes below.

Where can I redeem my UNI$?

UNI$ can be redeemed through UOB Rewards+ in the UOB TMRW app.

Each conversion to miles costs $27.25 (including GST) and are converted in blocks of 5000 UNI$.

How I would optimize the card to earn max points?

  • For the 7 categories offered, I’d calculate which one I am spending the most every month.
  • If my expenses for that category reaches the spending cap, I will switch to another card (preferably one which can also fetch a high MPD).
  • I’d also note my spending patterns, especially when I plan to make a big purchase or consolidate my purchases together like shopping for the family’s clothes and groceries in one quarter. This will dictate what my next few preferred categories should be.
  • Lastly, I’d open up the Lady’s Savings Account and maintain at least $10,000 (ideally $100,000 so that I can 15X my UNI$).

Final thoughts

Based on the high MPD alone, the UOB Lady’s Card is a good addition to your wallet. It is only a matter of time the product managers tweak the mechanics in their favour. Until that happens, take the opportunity to collect as many points as possible.
